The Rose that rose in December

The Rose that rose in december

A fresh rose came on a good day in December!
She budded but bloomed in late December.
And as it grew in this garden thus,
The other flowers were to her unjust.

The Rose resisted and silently waited,
Bearing the taunts and scorns untainted.
Uncaring of her bright attire,
She rose to do what others desire.

Then, one sweet day came jostling by,
A Lover of flowers came to this rose nigh
And instead of plucking it from the stem,
Unrooted this impeccable gem.

Went she to a special place
Where she alone could be!
And bringing smiles to every face
She, alone,could reflect and free!

Dedicated to my sister and friend, Giselle Monteiro(1970-1997)
